In Germany they really know how to shout out against waste of energy, and that was proved by building a giant igloo out of only old fridges. The big installation is located in Gänsemarkt in Hamburg, and consist of 322 fridges. Artist Ralf Schmerberg from Berlin is the man behind it all. Still he got a lot of support from an energy provider that wanted Germans to know that they can save up to 40% energy by using it differently, and they named the project “Wastefulness is the biggest source of Energy”.
Outside the “Fridge Igloo” they have put an electricity meter that shows how much energy the fridges would use if they were on, and inside you can find old and fun electronic devices.
This was such a good way of spreading the word against energy wasting, and we can hope that it is going to influence not only the Germans, but the rest of the world too. Someone that is really doing an effort to save energy is this McDonald’s intern that avoids burger flipping.
